Schoenbrunn Healthcare has seen many changes over the past couple years. In October of 2001, Schoenbrunn Healthcare welcomed new ownership. Since that time, many positive changes continue to take place. Kevin Daubenmire is our Executive Director; Kevin replaced Carl Holbrook who was promoted to our Corporate Executive Director of Operations. K McAbier, former Unit Manager for Schoenbrunn Healthcare, has accepted the position of Director of Nursing, and Darla Carlisle is now our Marketing Director. Kevin, K, and Darla have been working in long-term care for a number of years and their new positions have been greatly supported by their co-workers and others in the community. "Their experience in long-term care allows me to feel confidant that they, along with the entire Schoenbrunn Healthcare staff are providing the best care possible to our Residents," states Joel Sausen, owner of Schoenbrunn Healthcare.

One of the biggest changes in the past year has been the renovations of our shower rooms. All three main shower rooms have been remodeled and redecorated to accommodate our residents' needs. Having completed the shower rooms, our maintenance department has begun to redecorate our hallways to give them an updated, fresh look. There is much anticipation from staff and Residents and their families as we await the completion of this project.

Another major change at Schoenbrunn Healthcare involves our therapy team. Schoenbrunn Healthcare contracted with CGB Therapy Services to provide services for our physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Gene Capuano, Ty Ghezzi, and Jeff Bunner are owners/operators of CGB. Jeff and Gene have previously worked with residents at Schoenbrunn Healthcare and are, without a doubt, two of our most popular caregivers. "In addition to traditional therapy services, CGB is providing out-patient services through Schoenbrunn Healthcare. CGB offers a variety of programs through Schoenbrunn Healthcare such as the development of a balanced vestibule for falls prevention in the aging population, a feeding program which incorporates occupational therapy for use of adaptive equipment, and speech therapy for swallowing difficulties and maximizing nutrition and maintaining healthy body weight," says Jeff Bunner.

Daily living at Schoenbrunn Healthcare continues to be one that focuses on Quality of Life. While our nursing staff strives to provide the best in nursing care, our Activities, Social Services, and Dietary staff excel in providing the experiences in life that make it worth living. Much planning and preparation go into our activity programming which offers residents a well-balanced venue of activities to become involved with either on an individual or a group basis. Volunteerism is high at Schoenbrunn Healthcare; we have over 100 volunteers that provide a variety of services that involve programs for our residents. Buckeye Career Center, Kent State and many local schools have students that attend programs at Schoenbrunn Healthcare which incorporates intergenerational activities. These types of programs allow residents the opportunity to share their wisdom with today's youth, and our youth benefit by building character and a better understanding of the aging population. Our Dietary team has received many compliments regarding their meals, and it has been said that they are the best! They provide choices to accommodate the likes and dislikes of our residents. We also have the professional staff to ensure that the nutritional values of each meal are met. Schoenbrunn Healthcare has two social workers; Rebecca Plants and Trisha Stright work with both residents and their families to address issues regarding our residents' Quality of Life.

The entire Schoenbrunn Healthcare staff continues to take an interest in its community and have become aggressively involved with the many projects and worthwhile causes that benefit the community. Sausen shares this thought, "It is our belief that if we take care of our community, they will take care of us." "We need to earn the respect and trust of the people we serve," adds Carlisle, "this is why the entire staff of Schoenbrunn Healthcare put forth 110% every day on the job." With so many changes occurring in health care, Schoenbrunn Healthcare intends to be at the forefront, lending its experience, both good and bad, to help positively shape and mold the future of long-term and rehabilitation care.
