Schoenbrunn Healthcare
What's new for 2005 ?
Over the past year, Schoenbrunn Healthcare has continued to evolve into one of our areas
finest skilled nursing facilities. As we meet the intermediate and skilled needs of the
community, Schoenbrunn Healthcare continues to develop, add, and improve upon the services we offer.
Specializing in skilled services, Schoenbrunn Healthcare is one of few homes offering tracheostomy care,
IV therapy, Peritoneal Dialysis and Hemodialysis support. New and improved services include
specialized wound care and IV nutrition for those unable to meet their nutritional needs through
more traditional means. Nutritional IVs, commonly known as TPN, is a very expensive service and
as such each case must meet specific criteria for admission to our home. Schoenbrunn Healthcare also employs
Registered Nurses around the clock, and exceeds federal guidelines by employing more nurses per
patient than state and national averages.
Nutrition is another major area of importance in the care we provide to our Residents. Dietician,
Lea Haught, and Registered Dietic Tech, Karen Russell, closely monitor the nutritional intake and
value of each meal served to our Residents. A new program being planned is S.L.I.M. S.L.I.M. is
an acronym for Stay Lean, Improve Muscle. This program is being developed by the interdisciplinary
team to encourage Residents to continue eating healthy-watching sugar and sodium intake-and
exercising more regularly. The program will use various incentives to encourage participation, thus
making it fun to get or stay in shape.
Residents of Schoenbrunn Healthcare now enjoy a new 14 passenger bus to transport them to and from outings. The
new bus enables our Activity staff to double the amount of Residents who attend group outings
in the community. Resident Bill Moon says of the bus, "You can really see out of the windows now,
you can see all around. It is really nice." Transportation Specialist and State Tested Nursing
Assistant, Heidi Gump, operates the bus for both activity outings and doctor appointments. Also
new to the Activity Programming is the 30/60 Club. With an increase of Residents between the ages
of 30 and 60 years old, Schoenbrunn Healthcare has identified the need to incorporate a more diverse scope of
activities to meet the needs of a much younger population.
And finally, our commitment to the community remains an important factor in our daily lives. Over
the past year, Schoenbrunn Healthcare staff and Residents along with volunteers, visitors, and families of our
Residents have contributed to numerous community events and organizations such as the Alzheimer's
Association, The American Cancer Society, Share A Christmas, Kiwanis, Main Street New Phila., and much
more.
"Our belief in supporting the community has not changed over the past year and our commitment to the
community will remain constant" says Darla Carlisle, Marketing Director.
